Q. What are the advantages for my pet?
A. (1) The biggest advantage of Pet Sitting visits is greatly reduced stress on the pets. Your pet is able to stay in their own home with all the familiar smells, sounds and sights; and are also able to keep their usual routine.
(2) Diet and Exercise – Your pet is able to maintain the same feeding, medicines and exercise routines.
(3) Health Concerns – in its own home with a pet sitter calling, your pet is not exposed to other animals and the possible illnesses they may carry, such as kennel cough.
(4) T.L.C. - your pet receives plenty of love and attention while you are away. Due to the large numbers of animals in commercial boarding kennels or catteries, it is not easy for them to provide the individual attention and care that a pet sitter can.
(5) Fees – it nearly always works out to be more cost-effective.
Q. What are the advantages for me?
A. (1) No Running Around – When you have a bunch of things to do before leaving on holiday or that business trip, you won’t have to add driving your pet to the cattery or kennels to your list. Naturally you won’t have to go and pick them up either!
(2) Security – Instead of seeing an obviously unoccupied house, people will see a home with a lived-in look. Someone will be coming and going throughout the day, switching lights on and off, moving curtain positions, watering plants and bringing in the mail and newspapers.
(3) No Imposing on Friends/Relatives – It is hard to continually have to ask friends and family to take care of your pets when you go away and it can become an imposition. As well-intentioned as they might be, they may also not provide the level of care for your pets that a pet sitter will, and indeed sometimes skip days or even – rarely, but worst of all – forget all about it.
(4) Peace of Mind – Just knowing that your pet and your home are in the hands of a reliable, experienced and dependable care giver will mean less worry for you while you are away.
Q: What exactly does a pet sitter do?
A. Sixty four percent of Australian households have some sort of pet, with the overwhelming majority being cats and dogs – mankind’s oldest companion animals!
Happiest At home
According to the world’s largest animal protection organization, the American Humane Society, pets are happiest when they are in their own home – surrounded by their familiar sights, sounds and smells.
Up until quite recently, pet owners have had little choice for absentee care … they could turn to neighbours, friends or relatives or even boarding kennels or catteries – but each has their own complications. In group care at kennels or catteries, they often face cages and group accommodations (which some cats in particular loathe) with the possibility of picking up diseases like ‘kennel’ cough. Your friends or neighbours may do the bare minimum such as feed or water, but will they do it to your liking and will they remember every time?
Professional New Alternative
Increasingly, many people have found that a new alternative presents the best choice of all … a professional pet care provider who personally attends to your furry family member the exact way you would do it yourself if you were there.
According to the experts, including many vet’s; from the pet's perspective the familiar environment, diet and exercise routine, along with the personal attention provided by a professional pet care-giver are the perfect answers. Each day while you’re away, the pet sitter will attend your home to feed, care for, clean up after and interact with your pet.
Many Benefits
Abolishing the trauma of being moved out of their home into a strange, threatening environment and minimizing exposure to the illnesses of other animals are certainly real advantages to the owner and to the pet.
The in-home pet-care solution by professional care-givers is a relief to most owners who no longer have to impose on relatives, neighbours or friends nor have the inconvenience and sometimes the ordeal, of transporting the pet. There are also bonus services available, usually included in the fee, such as crime-deterrent measures, watering pot plants, bringing in the mail, and more.
